24/6/2013. Students from all over Ireland spent an exciting time at the University of Limerick Science and Engineering Summer Camp. In one of the activities at the week-long camp, the students performed a crime scene analysis re-enactment with the assistance of Henry Street Garda Station Investigation Division. The students used cutting edge science to solve crimes by identifying the guilty suspects in both a drug smuggling and bomb related incidents. The students discovered the presence of cocaine on one suspect, the presence of powder potentially used in making explosives on another and a third suspect was identified through DNA testing. Upon completion of the crime scene investigation, the Garda Investigation Division gave the students a full briefing on the forensic science investigations successfully carried out by their teams. In our photograph above are students Erin Clancy, Doonbegm Clare and Paraic O'Gorman, Kilmihil, Clare with Joanne Tobin, a graduate in Digital Media Design.
